Iris!


Is there anything more beautiful and strange than an iris?
There are between 200-300 different species. Iris takes its name from the Greek word for rainbow. And like spring, one is reminded of its return, only upon seeing it.

Aha! I Knew It! Blogging is Good For You.


Scientific American (we've heard of them) runs a piece on blogging and the brain. Alice Flaherty, a neuroscientist at Harvard University and Massachusetts General Hospital studies conditions such as hypergraphia (an uncontrollable urge to write) and writer’s block.
"Also, blogging might trigger dopamine release, similar to stimulants like music, running and looking at art."
That explains a lot.

Musings on English Muffins


So simple, so easy. I find myself buying English Muffins these days to feed troops of hungry teen age boys. Like locusts, they fly through the kitchen. What was, only hours ago, a well stocked kitchen turns into a sad Mother Hubbard-bare cupboard.
But English Muffins, so easy, so cheap, they might even have some nutritional value.
And what other food can one think of that is perforated? You split them with a fork.
